Are there any obstacles to installing the shelters?An on-site inspection is necessary to evaluate possible obstacles. We will work with you to ensure safe placement of the shelter. ***Prior to digging, all locations are called in to Okie811 for location of major lines.***

Will I need a building permit to install my tornado shelter?Building permits may be required. If a permit is required it is the home owners responsibilty to obtain the permit. Patriot Storm Shelters will be available to help in any way possible through the process.

How much will the shelter cost?Cost is determined by type and size of structure, location and mileage from home office. Contact us for a free quote.

What are the shelters made of and is there a warranty?Depending on unit our products are made from quality precast concrete products or Steel. The manufacturer warrants that there will be no leakage in the concrete structure for a period of 10 years from the date of installation. The warranty does not include moisture that may appear from time to time in the form of condensation, commonly due to temperature variations, humidity, etc. Neither does the warranty include water that may enter the structure through the door or ventilator. Small cracks caused by expansion and/or contraction which do not create a leakage or structural problem are not covered by the warranty.

Why should I consider a storm shelter?When severe weather happens, individuals and families need protection from the dangerous forces of extreme winds and adverse weather conditions. You should provide a safe shelter for yourself, your family, and your pets.

How long does it take to install the shelter?Safe room and shelter install time typically takes about 3hrs.

How does the shelter provide fresh air?Through the wall or roof, depending on type of shelter and passive ventilation around the door.

Are your products FEMA approved?There is no such thing as FEMA “approved.” FEMA approves nothing. However, FEMA does give specifications and YES, our Tornado Shelters are rated to meet FEMA’s specifications found in FEMA 361, FEMA 320 and NSSA (National Storm Shelter Association) 500 2020. We build to ALL these standards.

Does the shelter have seating and lighting?We do not offer seating or lighting for shelters or safe rooms. Some people will run conduit through the vent or turbine sleeve to provide power to in-ground shelters. Solar power is another popular power source. Steel safe rooms can have conduit boxes welded inside for light switches.

What happens if the house collapses on top of my storm shelter after a tornado?We recommend registering your shelter with your local emergency management such as your local fire department.

When is the best time to buy a shelter?The best time to buy a tornado shelter is before tornado season strikes. The slow season for shelter manufacturers is September through February, which makes it the ideal time to buy a shelter. Waiting until the first tornado hits may be too late.
